Thane: Four of the 10 people killed after last month's massive explosion at a chemical factory in Dombivali in Maharashtra have been identified so far, an official said on Thursday.

According to officials, the blast occurred at Amudan Chemicals in Dombivali MIDC in Thane district on May 23, killing 10 people and injuring over 60 others.

The impact of the explosion was so severe that it broke the windows of houses and damaged nearby cars, roads and electric poles.

Three bodies – of a man and two women – had already been identified.

Deepa Shukla, medical officer of Shastri Nagar Civic Hospital, said that on the basis of DNA sample, another body has now been identified as Vishal Podwal.

The deceased worked in one of the affected factories in the industrial area. His wife claimed the body on Wednesday, the officer said.

He said that with this, four dead bodies have been identified so far.

Shukla said DNA samples of nine other claimants (whose relatives are missing) have also been sent for testing.

Besides, a total of 26 body parts found at the blast site have been sent for testing by Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation and the results are awaited, he said.
