Kochi: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted a gold smuggling gang at the Cochin International Airport here.

Linin Boni, an airport employee, was arrested and about 1,400 grams of gold in paste form was recovered from him.

A DRI official said on Friday that the yellow metal was handed over to the staff at the toilet in the immigration area by a passenger named Balu, who had arrived in Kochi from Abu Dhabi on an Air Arabia flight on July 4.

"1,349 grams of 24 carat gold was found in mixed form and was seized," the officer said.

The official said the accused were arrested and produced before the Economic Offenses Court.
