Palghar (Maharashtra): A 15-year-old boy drowned in a lake in Nalasopara in the district on Wednesday, police said.
Three children had gone to swim in the Dhaniv pond and one of them, Firoz Wasim Shaikh, drowned, an official said.
He told that when the other two boys raised an alarm, the local people tried to save him but did not succeed.
Meanwhile, people in the area blamed the railways carrying out construction work nearby for not fencing the lake and vandalized the office of the construction contractor, the official said.
He said that no case has been registered yet in connection with the vandalism.
