Bijapur: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan posted on pole duty in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district was injured when a shell from an Under Barre Grenade Launcher (UBGL) accidentally exploded, a police officer said.

He said that the injured soldier of 196th battalion of CRPF was given initial treatment and is being evacuated.

The incident took place near Galgam village under Usoor police station when a team of security personnel was out on a surveillance operation in the area, about 500 meters from a polling booth, he said.

He said that Bijapur district falls in the Naxal-affected Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, where voting was going on in the first phase of the general elections.
