Jammu, As the nine-day 'Chaitra Navratri' began on Tuesday, thousands of devotees from across the country reached Mata Vaishna Devi temple in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Apart from other rituals on this auspicious occasion, a special havan, 'Shat Chandi Mahayagya' organized by Shri Mata Vaishna Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) was performed amidst serene atmosphere at the sacred cave, a spokesperson of the board said.

He said sacred rituals are being performed throughout Navratri at the temple situated atop the Trikuta hills to promote harmony, abundance and good health for all.

SMVDSB Chief Executive Officer, Anshul Garg, besides the pilgrims, other board members and officials participated in the yagya ceremony, the spokesperson said.

He told that the Havan is being telecast live on MH1 Shraddha channel every day from 12 noon to 1 pm for nine days.The temple is specially decorated for Navratri with intricate colorful lighting arrangements, flower arrangements, traditional motifs and embellishments.

The spokesperson said the board has made elaborate arrangements as per the directions of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also the Chairman of SMVDSB, to facilitate the large number of pilgrims visiting the temple during Navratri.

He said these arrangements include 24-hour water and electricity supply on the tracks leading to the temple, sanitation and medical facilities and availability of special 'fasting food' in the board's 'bhojnalayas'.

"For the ease and comfort of the pilgrims, facilities like accommodation battery operated vehicles, passenger ropeways and helicopter services have been provided and are running smoothly," he said.

Apart from 'Langar Seva' at Bhairon ji, free food will also be available to the pilgrims at the Prasad center at Tarakote Marg and Sanjichatt.To facilitate accessible pilgrimage for physically challenged pilgrims, the board is providing free pony and battery car services at the temple, the official said.

He said that other special features of Navratri celebrations at Vaishno Devi temple include 'Bhajan' and 'Ataka Aarti' by renowned artists.
