On July 4, the sweeper allegedly killed them and threw the bodies in a nearby drain, a Mumbra police station official said, without giving details.

He said that later a foul smell started coming from the drain and when it was examined on Monday, dead bodies were found in it.

He said that following a complaint by a member of the housing society, a case was registered against the sweeper on Monday under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
