The death toll rose to 13 on Sunday after four more people died of burn injuries in a firecracker explosion in Puri, according to an official statement.

At present, 17 people injured in the blast are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Puri, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

While two of the injured died on Sunday morning, two others succumbed to their injuries in the afternoon.

A statement issued by the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner said.

A total of 30 people were injured in an explosion in a store of firecrackers during the 'Chandan Yatra' of Lord Jagannath in Puri on the night of May 29.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and BJP's Puri Lok Sabha candidate Sambit Patra met family members of several deceased persons on Saturday evening.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had ordered an inquiry into the accident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the families of each deceased.

He said that the accident is being investigated at the administrative level by SRC Satyabrata Sahu.

Taking suo motu cognizance, the police have also registered a criminal case and are investigating the matter.
