Bhubaneswar: The death toll in a firecracker explosion in Odisha's Pur increased to four on Friday after one more person died. A senior officer gave this information.

Three people, including a minor, were killed and 33 others were injured when a store of firecrackers exploded during the Chandan Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath in Puri on Wednesday evening.

A statement issued by the office of the Special Relief Commission (SRC) said another injured person died in hospital, while 26 others were undergoing treatment.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered an administrative inquiry into the incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of each deceased.

"Collector, Puri has already taken steps to provide Rs 4 lakh each as ex-gratia assistance to the next of kin of the 4 deceased persons," the SR statement said.

Satyabrata Sahu, an Additional Chief Secretary level officer of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, who is also the Special Relief Commissioner, has started an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, Puri police said it has registered a suo motu criminal case and investigation is underway.
