Moving towards its ultimate goal of zero carbon emissions by 2030, CR has already commissioned 12.05 MWp (MW peak) solar plants on rooftops and buildings of railway stations, an increase of 4 MWp last year.

A CR spokesperson said, "This has resulted in a savings of Rs 4.62 crore in 2023-2024, along with a carbon footprint of approximately 6.95 tonnes. We are planning to install an additional 7 MW solar power plant in the current year Are."

Apart from 61 MW of solar power, CR is already tapping 56.4 MW of wind power, and it has signed PPAs to harness 325 MW of solar and wind power on a 24-hour basis.

The spokesperson said additional 180 MW solar and 50 MW wind power is likely to come this year and these initiatives are equivalent to saving 2.50 lakh trees.

CR's current monthly power consumption is 236.92 million units for traction work and 9.7 million units for other non-traction work.

After the commissioning of the above sources of renewable energy, CR expects 70 percent of its traction energy to be green.
