Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Harsimrat Kaur, wife of party president Sukhbir Badal, retained the politically crucial Bathinda seat, also known as the cotton belt of the state, for the fourth consecutive term.

AAP claimed victory on Sangrur seat. Second-time MLA Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer won the seat by defeating his nearest rival and Congress party's Sukhpal Singh Khaira by 172,560 votes.

Two independent candidates are leading continuously since the first round. They include jailed Sikh fundamentalist Amritpal Singh, chief of 'Waris Punjab De', who is in an Assam jail under the National Security Act, and who is contesting from Khadur Sahib, while Sarabjit Singh, one of Pradhan's killers. One has a son. Minister Indira Gandhi is contesting from Faridkot (reserved). He created a “radical” wave.

According to the trends, Congress is leading in Amritsar, Firozpur, Gurdaspur and Patiala seats, while AAP is leading in Hoshiarpur and Anandpur Sahib seats.

Congress leader and former Chief Minister Charanjit Channi won from Jalandhar by a margin of 1,75,993 votes by defeating BJP's Sushil Rinku.

AAP candidate Pawan Kumar Tinu stood third with 2.08 lakh votes, while Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Mohinder Singh Kaypi got 67,911 votes.

According to the Election Commission, Congress's Amar Singh won the Fatehgarh seat by defeating AAP's Gurpreet Singh GP by a margin of 34,202 votes.
