CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government has rejected IAS officer Parampal Kau Sidhu's request for voluntary retirement for allegedly falsifying his grounds and asked him to resume his duties immediately.

The development comes days after he was formally relieved of his duties after the Centre's Department of Personnel and Training accepted his resignation.

Sidhu, a 2011 batch IAS officer who is contesting from Bathinda parliamentary constituency on a BJP ticket, had tendered her resignation last month and requested that the condition of three months' notice period also be waived.

Later she joined BJP in Delhi.

Sidhu is the daughter-in-law of Akali Dal leader Sikandar Singh Maluka.

After he joined the BJP on 11 April, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the state government had not accepted his resignation as an IAS officer.Recently, Sidhu was posted as the managing director of Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation.

According to the letter sent by the State Personnel Department to Sidhu, relaxation in the notice period can be given only by the State Government and that too if it is satisfied for the reasons recorded in writing.

Sidhu had also written directly to the Center on April 7 for approval of his application for VRS, the communication said.

“You said that your mother is 81 years old and is not in good health, both your father and your younger brother died a few years ago and there is no one in India to take care of your old mother, and you should immediately Need to stay here All the time stay at your parents' house in Bathinda to take care of your old ailing mother and pursue further plans in life,'' the communication said.

In the wake of his letter, the Punjab government received a letter from the Under Secretary to the Government of India, asking him to accept Sidhu's VRS.The Punjab government, in its letter to Sidhu, said that the sanctioned strength of IAS officers for the state is 231, while only 192 officers are currently working in the Punjab cadre.

"Thus the state is facing an acute shortage of officers, which has resulted in multiple charges being given to many officers," it said.

“For the last several days you have been actively participating in political activities which falsifies the grounds for voluntary retirement mentioned in your application.

It said, "In the light of the above, the State Government has still not waived the notice period of three months required under Rule 16(2) and no order has been passed with respect to accepting your request for VRS." Have done."

The communication said that since he has relinquished the charge of the post of MD PSIDC in an "unauthorized manner", he cannot be treated as retired or relieved from service."In the light of the above, in public interest you are directed to immediately resume your duty as MD, PSIDC, failing which appropriate action will be taken against you," the communication said.
