Chandigarh, Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar on Thursday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to name Jalandhar's Adampur airport after Guru Ravidas.

The Prime Minister, during his last election rally in Punjab's Hoshiarpur on May 30, had said that he wished that the Adampur airport be named after Guru Ravidas. Then Modi had said that the welfare of the poor is the top priority of his government and Guru Ravidas is a big inspiration in this.

Adampur Airport in Jalandhar serves the Doaba region of Punjab. Modi had virtually inaugurated the new terminal buildings of Adampur airport on March 10.In a letter on Thursday, Punjab BJP chief Jakhar congratulated Modi on becoming Prime Minister for the third time.

"Your significant third term as Prime Minister of India has provided new strength to the people of the country, especially the constituents of Punjab, who see you as the embodiment of a developed India. On behalf of the people of Punjab, I would like Jakhar Said, “I congratulate you on this historically rare achievement.”

He said, “I would like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to two issues that have a deep emotional-spiritual impact on the minds of people. These issues also resonate with your commitment to society.,

Jakhar said, “Naming the Adampur airport after the 15th century spiritual saint Guru Ravidas, as you had already expressed during your recent visit to Punjab, reflects the ethos of spirituality in diversity that binds India.” Will go a long way in strengthening. This has also been a long pending demand of the people of Punjab.”

Jakhar also requested Modi that since the Guru Ravidas temple in Delhi's Tughlakabad is to be rebuilt, it would be worthwhile to consider developing the area around the temple as a tranquil garden.

"This will enhance the appeal of the temple without tampering with the layout. It will inspire people everywhere with the egalitarian teachings of the revered saint," the Punjab BJP chief said."
