New Delhi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday urged the Central and Uttarakhand governments to take steps to prevent forest fire incidents and make effective efforts with everyone's cooperation to save the Himalayas.

His comments came after the death of four forest workers and injuries to four others while extinguishing a fire in Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary under Civil Soyam Forest Division in Almora district of Uttarakhand.

In a post in Hindi on X, Gandhi said, “The news of the death of four workers who went to extinguish the forest fire in Almora, Uttarakhand and the injuries of many others is very sad. I pray to God for all." The state government will provide compensation and assistance to the affected families at all possible levels.

He said that the forests of Uttarakhand have been burning continuously for the last several months and hundreds of hectares of forest have been destroyed.

He said that there are reports of forest fire in Himachal Pradesh also.

Gandhi said, according to a study, the incidents of forest fires have increased manifold in the Himalayan region.

She said, "Climate change has had the biggest impact on our Himalayas and the mountain environment. I appeal to the central and state governments to take steps to stop the incidents of fire and with everyone's cooperation to save the Himalayas. But make an effective effort.” Said.

Last month, a resin factory in Almora district was engulfed in a forest fire and three workers were killed while trying to douse the fire.

Due to hot and dry weather, fires have started breaking out again in the forests of Uttarakhand. According to the Uttarakhand forest fire bulletin, seven incidents were reported in the last 24 hours, affecting 4.50 hectares of forest.
