In New Delhi [India], Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu sought help from the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Center to help Andhra Pradesh in "redevelopment and reconstruction".

During his speech in the Lok Sabha, he also urged the concerned ministries to help Andhra Pradesh in seeking debt relief and assistance for the Polavaram project.

The TDP MP also praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that the TDP will support the NDA in its development effort for the next five years.

Addressing the Lok Sabha on Monday, Devarayalu said: "As the electoral process is completed, I would request the Prime Minister and the honorable ministers to extend a helping hand for the reconstruction of Andhra Pradesh... it is a very strong word because We are facing to two problems."

He said the two main problems facing the state are: revenue shortfall and high debt burden.

"The first issue is... the quota, the revenue shortfall that we are facing for the last 10 years... we are fighting. We request the Ministry of Finance to release the revenue shortfall, the gap that is supposed to be released 8- 10 years ago," the TDP MP said.

"The second problem is the debt we are facing to the tune of Rs 13.5 lakh crore. If the debt is taken for infrastructure, there is no problem. But the problem in Andhra Pradesh, especially in the last five years, is debt. ...no new infrastructure has been added," he added.

He also sought help from the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti for the Polavaram Project and the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for the construction of the state capital at Amaravati.

"We want the Jal Shakti Ministry to look into the national project, Polavaram Project, which is in limbo for the last five years and no progress has been made. I request the Jal Shakti Ministry to send a new team to assess the situation over the land. "We want it to be expedited because this is a project that can provide irrigation water to 4.3 hectares in the state, 28.5 lakh households and also generate 965 megawatts of electricity," Devarayalu said.

"Also, we want the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to look at our capital, Amaravati. The farmers have given up 33 acres of land free of cost... waiting for the capital to be built. Andhra Pradesh was divided 10 years ago, but We still rule the State without capital," he added.

The TDP MP also praised the performance of the NDA government in the last 10 years and said the country has made great strides in economy and infrastructure. He also pointed out some crucial laws passed in Parliament.

Devarayalu, further stated that the NDA government will not stop there and will work towards achieving bigger goals.

"We have passed some important laws in the last 10 years. We passed the GST, which was very necessary as we had a very cumbersome tax process in all states. We have brought legislation banning Triple Talaq and the reservation bill women. We have brought three penal laws and repealed Article 370. But the NDA will not sit back and set new targets," the TDP leader said.

"TDP, as a partner of the NDA, we support you in this endeavor for the next five years. Andhra Pradesh wants to work with you. Andhra Pradesh has also shown this in the recent assembly elections. Of the 175 seats we contested, the NDA won 164 Out of 25 parliamentary seats, NDA won 21. More than 90 per cent success and more than 56 per cent votes," he added.

The TDP-BJP-Janasena alliance contested the recent elections together and registered a landslide victory in the assembly and parliamentary elections in Andhra Pradesh.

The alliance won a landslide majority of 164 seats, the TDP won 135 and the Janasena Party and the BJP won 21 and eight respectively. In the Lok Sabha too, the alliance won 21 of 25 seats.

The third consecutive NDA government was sworn in last month under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. The NDA won 293 seats and the BJP won 240 seats on its own. The opposition bloc INDIA won 234 seats.
