According to the ministry, the helpline has seen a steady increase in the number of callers, from around 12,000 in December 2022 to over 90,000 in May 2024. This also includes a call-back for follow-up.

"This increase in engagement also underlines the importance of continuing to invest and expand mental health initiatives to ensure everyone can get the support they need," the ministry said.

It said, "By connecting existing mental health resources and establishing a comprehensive digital network, Tele-Manas has become an essential platform to address the mental health needs of the country."

The ministry said providing teleservices to target vulnerable populations is "an important milestone in India's ongoing efforts to tackle the mental health crisis".

The ministry said the platform will also be integrated with initiatives like e-Sanjeevan to further enhance the reach and effectiveness, helping address the growing mental health challenges in the country.
