PANAJI: Trains on the Konkan Railway route were stopped at various places on Tuesday after water entered a tunnel in Goa's Pernem, a senior official said.

He said four to five trains have been stopped at different stations and traffic is likely to resume by late night.

"Trains have been stopped at various places on the Konkan Railway route due to water accumulation and leakage inside a tunnel in Pernem in North Goa," Konkan Railway Corporation (KRCL) Deputy General Manager Baban Ghatge said.

He said trains were stopped from 3 pm and the track was expected to be cleared by 10.30 pm.

Ghatge said, no trains were cancelled.

Each stalled train is expected to be delayed by about seven hours, he said, adding that work to clear the tracks in Pernem is going on a war footing.
