Eluru (Andhra Pradesh) [India], Water resources sector experts from the United States (US) and Canada visited Andhra Pradesh on Sunday to inspect the Polavaram project site.

The four experts, two from the United States and two from Canada, who met officials of the Central Water Resources Department in New Delhi on Saturday, reached Rajahmundry town on Saturday night, sources in the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) said. ).

Experts include David P Paul and Gain Franco of Sikko from the United States, while Richerd Dannelli and Sean Hinch Berger from Canada.

The experts reached Polavaram on Sunday and after meeting the officials, inspected the project site, including the diaphragm wall, the two cofferdams and the guide dam.

These water resources experts are expected to remain at the project site till July 3 to carry out a detailed study of the project design based on the current situation and the ongoing works of Polavaram.

After their visit to Polavaram, these experts will again hold review meetings with officials of the Central Directorate of Water Resources and representatives of construction organisations.

The state government has sought the help of these foreign water resources experts as the current situation is such that the actual losses caused to the project in the last five years could not be assessed due to the wrong decisions of the previous government.

Earlier on Friday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu released a white paper on the Polavaram project in the assembly.

He further said that Polavaram is a central government project.

He further said that 72 per cent of the Polavaram project was completed during the TDP regime and all pending works were completed.

The Polavaram Project is a multipurpose irrigation project under construction on the Godavari River in Eluru district and East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. The Central Government of India has granted the project national project status.

The 16th Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly began on June 21 and Naidu, along with Nara Lokesh and Nandamuri Balakrishna took oath as members.

Naidu had promised in November 2021 that he would return to the Assembly only after becoming Chief Minister.

The TDP supremo took oath as Andhra Chief Minister on June 12 along with his cabinet.

His party had fought the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections as well as the Lok Sabha elections in association with the BJP and the Janasena Party.

The TDP-BJP-Janasena alliance registered a landslide victory in the assembly and parliamentary elections.

The TDP has 135 MLAs in the Andhra Pradesh assembly, while the Janasena Party has 21 and the BJP eight. The opposition YSR Congress Party has 11 MLAs.
