"This port is the best example of a successful public-private partnership model and as it becomes a reality, we appreciate the sincere efforts of the Adani Group to successfully complete it," Vijayan said.

Vijayan said this while delivering his address soon after officially receiving the first mothership at the country's first trans-shipment port near Kovalam beach in Kerala, a significant occasion in India's port history.

Joining them to welcome the mothership 'San Fernando', a ship from Maersk, the world's second largest shipping company, which arrived at the port with over 2,000 containers, were Karan Adani, Managing Director of Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ) Friday at 10.30 am.

Vijayan said the port has become a reality despite efforts by the international lobby to destroy it.

“The first phase of the port is now ready and is expected to cost Rs 8,867 crore, of which the state government's share is 63 per cent, the Adani Group has bought in 27 per cent and 10 per cent is the feasibility gap financing share from the Centre. ,” Vijayan said, and expected that work on the third and fourth phases of the project would be completed by 2028-29.

Vijayan also thanked the Adani Group for doing its best by using its CSR funds for the community in the Vizhinjam port area.
