The ship 'San Fernando' of Maersk, the world's second largest shipping company, arrived at Vizhinjam port with more than 2,000 containers.

"Historic day as Vizhinjam welcomes its first container ship," Gautam Adani posted on the X social media platform.

Adani Group Chairman said, “This milestone marks India's entry into global trans-shipment and ushers in a new era in India's maritime logistics, establishing Vizhinjam as a major player in global trade routes. It's done. Jai Hind."

With the arrival of the first mother ship, Adani Group's Vizhinjam Port has catapulted India into the world port business as the port will be ranked 6th or 7th globally. The official ceremony will take place on Friday. It will be attended by Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Adani Ports and SEZ Limited (APSEZ) Managing Director Karan Adani.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has seven ports and terminals strategically located on the west coast and eight ports and terminals on the east coast, representing 27 percent of the total port volume of the country. In FY24, APSEZ handled 27 per cent of the country's total cargo and 44 per cent of container cargo.
