Wayanad (Kerala) [India], Wayanad District Congress Committee on Tuesday passed a resolution to welcome party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to Wayanad.

The Congress party in Kerala welcomed the candidature of party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi for the by-election on Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.

Leader of opposition in Kerala Assembly VD Satheesan expressed confidence in Priyanka Gandhi's victory with a historic majority.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will contest from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency.

Priyanka Gandhi will make her debut in the Lok Sabha by-election and her brother Rahul Gandhi has decided to retain the Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh, where he had contested and won.

Party president Mallikarjun Kharge announced in a special press conference on Monday that Priyanka Gandhi will contest the elections from Wayanad.

Rahul Gandhi, who contested from two seats - Rae Bareli and Wayanad - won from both the constituencies.

For long, Priyanka had preferred to stay away from the limelight, looking after the family bastions of Amethi and Rae Bareli, represented by Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi respectively.

Priyanka Gandhi said on Monday that she will contest the by-election from Wayanad but her decades-old relationship with Amethi and Rae Bareli will continue.

“I am very happy to be able to represent Wayanad and I will not let them feel his (Rahul Gandhi) absence.I will work hard and try my best to please everyone and be a good representative. Rahul Gandhi said that both Rae Bareli and Wayanad will get two MPs each.
