Washington [US], Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is continuously making headlines as his legal saga unfolds.

After being convicted of rape and sexual assault by a Los Angeles jury in late 2022, Weinstein's legal team has vowed to continuously appeal the verdict. Finally, they have filed an appeal that ties into the recent overturning of Weinstein's 2020 conviction by a New York jury, according to Deadline.

The recent ruling by the Empire State Appeals Court, which overturned Weinstein's previous convictions on the grounds of improper testimony, has reignited the legal battle.

In a 4-3 decision, the court found the trial judge's allowance of some testimony prejudicial, leading to Weinstein's conviction being vacated and a new trial ordered in New York, according to a report by Deadline. Now, as attention turns to the West Coast, Weinstein's lawyers have filed an appeal in California's Second Appellate District.

According to Deadline, they argue that Weinstein was denied a fair trial due to the jury's information about his prior conviction in New York, which was not introduced into evidence during the trial. Weinstein's lawyers say this outside information has irreparably maligned the trial process.

Meanwhile, Weinstein, who is currently serving a sentence at Rikers Island, awaits his retrial in New York, scheduled to begin in September.

A Manhattan assistant district attorney has hinted at the possibility of new indictments against the former film producer.Amid these legal proceedings, Weinstein's spokesperson emphasized the defense's position, alleging that crucial evidence was withheld during the Los Angeles trial.

The reportedly 163-page appeal document challenges the LA trial's verdict, citing misleading information and the exclusion of key evidence.

Weinstein's defense team is adamant on securing a new trial, arguing that his right to a fair trial has been violated multiple times.

However, according to Deadline, the office of California Attorney General Rob Bonta, responsible for representing the prosecution, has remained silent on the matter.
