Mumbai: Opposition members protested in the premises of Maharashtra Vidhan Bhawan as the monsoon session of the state legislature began here on Thursday.

The protesters, belonging to the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP (SP), raised slogans against the government on issues related to farmers and the NEET exam.

There have been several allegations of irregularities in the medical entrance examination, National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET, conducted by the National Testing Agency in May.

Sitting on the steps of the state legislature complex, the opposition members held placards in their hands and raised slogans.

The opposition alliance on Wednesday boycotted Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's traditional tea party on the eve of the session and accused the government of failing to address public issues.

The ruling Mahayuti alliance will present the state budget in both houses of the legislature on June 28, during the session to be held in Mumbai from June 27 to July 12. The interim budget was presented in February ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
