Nuevo Leon civil protection coordinator Eric Cavazos said Friday that four deaths have been confirmed so far in the state, two of which were caused by electric shock.

State Governor Samuel Garcia has warned residents not to leave their homes and has suspended classes from Thursday, Xinhua news agency reported.

The tropical storm hit northeastern Mexico in images not seen for years after the region suffered a drought.

Local officials said hospitals and shelters were available in case of any situation.

The National Meteorological Service predicts the presence of rain and strong winds in the area on Friday.
