Fadnavis said in the state assembly that the transformation project was launched after due consultation with the Deekshabhoomi committee. However, he said that fresh discussions would be held involving the committee, representatives of various agitating organizations and the contractors concerned. He assured that the work will be started only after taking into account the changes, if any, made by the people involved in the movement.

The stay was imposed after several opposition and ruling members raised the issue following the agitation launched against the work of an underground park in Deekshabhoomi. He claimed that this work could endanger the original foundation of Deekshabhoomi as well as the stupa.

Congress MLA Nitin Raut expressed strong objection to the ongoing work at the site and claimed that it threatens the basic structure and hence should be stopped immediately.

BJP MLA Narayan Kuche also sought government intervention to stop the work.

Opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar claimed through his post on Twitter that people's sentiments have been hurt due to the work on Deekshabhoomi. He said, “Therefore, we are of the view that this work should be stopped immediately while respecting the sentiments of the people.” This has created a law and order problem and the government should immediately intervene and hold discussions with the protesters.
