Mumbai: The Maharashtra Legislative Council had to be adjourned thrice on Tuesday as BJP member Praveen Darekar objected to the alleged use of abusive language by Leader of Opposition Ambadas Danve in the House the previous day and demanded a discussion on the issue.

The BJP MLA alleged that Danve used abusive language in the Lok Sabha on Monday evening while replying to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's discussion on the topic of "not a Hindu".

BJP MLA Prasad Lad raised the issue of Gandhi's remarks in the council on Monday. He demanded a resolution condemning Gandhi's comments, which drew a sharp response from Danve.

As soon as the House proceedings began on Tuesday, Darekar sought a discussion on the alleged use of abusive language by Danve.

Council Vice President Neelam Gore urged Darekar to allow the Question Hour to be completed, but Darekar insisted on discussing the issue in the House.

He said there was a need to maintain the sanctity of the Legislative Council, especially the leader of the opposition.

Gore said the matter is serious and a decision can be taken only after reviewing the video clip of the comments and gathering other details.

However, Darekar refused to take a soft stance and expressed his disapproval. He alleged that Danve not only used abusive language in the House but also talked about it in the media, which raises questions over the seriousness of his behaviour.

He asserted his right to speak and threatened to disrupt the House proceedings, forcing Gorhe to initially adjourn it for an hour.

Later, when the proceedings were resumed, an uncontrolled situation arose in the House on the same issue, after which the Deputy Chairman adjourned it twice till 2 pm.
