Shubhankar's berth was confirmed in Paris after the International Golf Federation (IGF) revealed the Olympic qualification list of 60 male and female golfers for the Olympic golf tournament to be held between August 1-4, 2024. Subhankar, who has an official world golf ranking of 222, qualified with an Olympic rank of 48, paving the way for the Chandigarh player to make his debut at the Games.

He will be joined by Gaganjeet Bhullar, who had qualified with the Olympic rank of 54th and will also be making his Olympic debut. Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will represent India in the women's tournament.

The 27-year-old Indian mascot, who recently signed on as the brand ambassador of RoundGlass Sports, is a two-time winner on the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) and has eight career titles to his name.He will be seen in action this month at the KLM Open in Amsterdam and the Italian Open, both of which are part of the DP World Tour.

Sharing his views on the occasion, Shubhankar Sharma said, “It is a privilege and honor to represent India in the Olympics. Obviously it's a dream come true. I have been preparing for this day for quite some time now and planning my schedule for the European tour accordingly. We have a very good and experienced team of Gaganjeet, Aditi, Diksha and me."We have depth and experience behind us. Everyone is playing solid golf on their respective tours at the moment as well, and that's a good sign. If Olympic week goes our way, any medals for both the men's and women's teams Possible. Speaking personally, he said, "My game is going in the right direction and I am ready to perform well."

Shubhankar is a promising talent who turned professional in 2013 at the age of 16.He is currently the highest ranked Indian in men's professional golf globally and was the No. 1 player in Asia in 2018. Shubhankar has been featured on European and Asian tours since 2018.

Shubhankar has performed multiple times in all golf majors and has recorded the best ever performance by an Indian in The Open, the world's oldest golf championship. Last year, he finished joint eighth in the 151st Open in Liverpool. Additionally, his two European Tour titles have been the Joburg Open and the Maybank Championships.His six other titles have been on India's top pro tour, the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).

Shubhankar is also the recipient of the Arjuna Award in 2018, the second highest honor for sports personalities in the country. He was also awarded the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year in 2018 and is the winner of the Asian Tour Order of Merit in the same year.
