Sikar (Rajasthan) [India], Newly elected CPI(M) MP from Sikar Amra Ram said he will oppose the government's policies which favor big business and are harmful to the interests of common people.

"I want to assure my voters in Sikar that I will live up to your expectations and take all your issues to Parliament," Amra Ram told ANI.

He said that he will oppose those laws which are against the workers, farmers and youth of the country.

"The movement will continue to protest against policies that are against the common man and in favor of big business," he said.

Amra Ram also supported the Central Industrial Security Force woman constable who allegedly slapped newly elected MP and actor Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh airport. He termed the alleged slap as a "befitting reply" to those opposing the farmers' movement.He said, "I want to thank the brave soldier who gave a befitting reply to those opposing the farmers' movement."

On Sikar seat, Amra Ram defeated BJP's Sumedhanand Saraswati by a margin of 72,896 votes. Amra Ram, 72, contested the elections from Sikar, a Jat-dominated constituency, in alliance with the opposition Congress.

He is a four-time CPI(M) MLA and a prominent farmer leader who is known for advocating for farmers' rights and has led several movements.

He previously represented Dhod assembly constituency three times between 1993 and 2003 and won from Danta Ramgarh in 2008.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 14 out of 25 seats in Rajasthan, while Congress managed to get eight seats there. CPI(M), Rashtriya Loktantrik Party and Bharat Adivasi Party managed to secure one seat each.In the 2019 elections, BJP won majority in Rajasthan by getting 24 seats, while Congress did not get any seats.
