Chandigarh, INLD candidate from Kurukshetra Abhay Singh Chautala on Thursday attacked his BJP and AAP rivals in the Lok Sabha constituency, saying carrying sacks of grains or "pretending" to harvest crops does not make one a well-wisher of laborers and farmers.

Chautala also asked where Naveen Jindal (BJP candidate) and Sushil Gupta (AA nominee) were during the farmers' agitation against the now repealed farm laws.

The INLD leader's comments come a day after Jindal carried a bag full of wheat on his shoulder and loaded it into a truck at Radaur grain market in Yamunanagar on Wednesday during campaigning.

Similarly, Aam Aadmi Party state unit chief Gupta harvested crops during the election campaign.

Chautala said, “Pretending to carry sacks of grain on shoulders in the grain market, pretending to harvest crops does not make them well-wishers of laborers or farmers.,

"Naveen Jindal and Sushil Gupta are insulting farmers and laborers by doing such a drama... Where were both of them during the farmers' movement (against the now repealed farm laws)?" Chautala asked.

"This drama is being staged only to get the votes of the poor and innocent farmers and labourers," he said in a statement.

Abhay Chautala said Gupta was a Rajya Sabha member for six years, asking "if he raised the issue of farmers even once".

He claimed, “Gupta never went to the fields to meet the farmers. If you ask Gupta to stand in a field of barley and wheat, he would not be able to tell the difference.,

Taking aim at the BJP, Chautala said the party, which claims it will win more than 400 seats in the general elections, is having to 'borrow' candidates from other parties.

He was referring to seats like Sirsa, Kurukshetra and Hisar, where leaders from other parties recently joined the saffron party and were given tickets.

Chautala claimed, "BJP will not be able to win even 200 seats this time."

Voting will be held on May 25 in the sixth phase of general elections on all 10 parliamentary seats of Haryana.

AAP is contesting the Kurukshetra seat as part of the opposition's India Blow, while Congress will contest the remaining nine seats.
