Qatar has been ranked 11th out of 67 countries, most of which are developed countries, in the 2024 World Competitiveness Handbook released by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Doha [Qatar], Switzerland, compared to 12th last year.

According to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the report ranked Qatar 4th, 7th, 11th and 33rd based on the factors of economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency and infrastructure respectively.

The competitiveness assessment was based on developments observed by a comprehensive set of locally provided data and indicators, as well as the results of an opinion poll of a sample of company managers and businessmen on the business environment and competitiveness of the Qatari economy. , as well as comparing such data and indicators with counterparts in other reviewed countries.

Qatar's rank was positively influenced by its excellent performance on several sub-factors categorized under the four factors mentioned above. Under the economic performance factor, the most prominent indicators were unemployment rate, youth unemployment rate and terms of trade index in which the country stood first globally.

Within the government efficiency factor, the Qatari economy ranks first in both the consumption tax rate and personal income tax rate, while it ranks second in the public finance index. As far as business efficiency factors are concerned, Qatar ranked first globally in the effectiveness of both corporate boards and expatriate stock, while it came second globally in the index of working hours. Under the infrastructure factor, Qatar ranks first in energy infrastructure utilities and the number of Internet users per 1,000 people.
