Israeli forces killed 48 Palestinians and wounded 79 others during the past 2 hours, bringing the total death toll to 34,097 and wounding 76,980 since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict on October 7, 2023 .

Mahmoud Bassal, spokesman for the Civil Defense Service in the Gaza Strip, told reporters on Sunday that rescue workers had recovered more than 50 bodies from various locations in Khan Yunis city, Xinhua news agency reported.

Israeli forces withdrew from Khan Yunis on 7 April, four months after launching the ground campaign.

Israeli forces had buried the bodies en masse, Bassal said, adding that search operations were continuing as thousands of people were still missing in Gaza.

The spokesman accused the Israeli military of "systematically and deliberately disappearing people in the Gaza Strip".

He said Israeli forces destroyed dozens of bodies before burying them and taking them back.

On October 7, 2023, Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip in response to Hamas' incursion through the southern Israeli border, during which approximately 1,200 people were killed and more than 200 were taken hostage.
