Srinagar, Three former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday condemned the terror attack on army personnel in Kathua district of the Union Territory.

The three former CMs, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and Ghulam Nabi Azad, reacted sharply when terrorists ambushed an army truck in the remote Machedi area in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing four personnel and wounding six others. The fifth staff member later succumbed to his injuries.

"Terrible news from Kathua. It is a very bad day when four brave members of the army are lost in the line of duty. I condemn the attack unequivocally and send my deepest condolences to the families. I hope the injured make a quick and complete recovery ". Abdullah, vice president of the National Conference (NC), posted on X.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, while condemning the attack, said it was an indication of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

"We condemn the terrorist attack in Kathua that claimed the lives of four soldiers. It is tragic and equally shocking that they are losing their lives in the line of duty in places where little or no trace of militancy was found before 2019.

"It tells you everything there is to know about the current security situation in J&K. Our deepest condolences to their families," he said in a post on X.

Azad also expressed his regret over the incident.

"We deeply regret and strongly condemn the ambush of a military vehicle by terrorists in Kathua, which resulted in the tragic loss of four jawans and injuries to six others. The rise in terrorism in the province of Jammu is deeply worrying.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and their families. The government must act decisively to confront terrorism and ensure public safety!" DPAP Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad posted on X.
