Kingstown (St Vincent), Veteran Shakib Al Hasan played a brilliant inning of 64 runs off 46 balls as Bangladesh posted 159 for five against Netherlands in their T20 World Cup group match here on Thursday.

Apart from Shakib, Tanzeed Hasan scored 35 runs in 26 balls and Mahmudullah scored 25 runs in 21 balls. Zaker Ali came in and was out after scoring 14 runs in just 7 balls.

Bangladesh started their innings with two left-handed batsmen, Netherlands captain Scott Edwards bowled the new ball to off-spinner Aryan Dutt in the second over and the move paid immediate dividends as he got the better of Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto (1). Got a big wicket. ,

The Dutch would do well to thank the Bangladesh captain for his terrible shot selection as he was caught at first slip attempting an unnecessary reverse sweep.Dutt also dismissed Liton Das at the beginning of the fourth over thanks to a brilliant catch in the deep by fast-running Sybrand Engelbrecht. After Das turned Dutt towards square leg, Engelbrecht covered a lot of ground and dived at full length to take the catch.

The shot played by Das was also unnecessary as Tanjid Hasan had hit two fours and a six in the previous over. For maximum advantage, Tanzid danced on the ground and blasted it over the covers.

18 runs came in the fourth over bowled by Vivian Kingma and Bangladesh were on their way.

Struggling for form before this game, Shakib hit four fours in the sixth over, making 19 runs as Bangladesh reached 54 for two at the end of the powerplay.

Meanwhile, Tanzid tried to hit Van Meekeren against the wind and it cost him by hitting Bas de Leede in the outfield.

After this, Bangladesh's two most experienced players Mahmudullah and Shakib took over the team by adding 41 runs for the fourth wicket. However, as the innings reached its final stages, Mahmudullah, after hitting two sixes and two fours, was out due to the strong wind as Engelbrecht completed another good catch near the ropes.
