Metropolitan Bishop Geevarghese Mar Kuriloz of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church on Thursday blamed the arrogance and wastefulness of the Kerala government for its poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections.

He said floods and pandemics will not happen forever and pointed out that 'food kits' given free to people during such disasters will not help all the time.

The Metropolitan Bishop also pointed out that the second Pinarayi Vijayan government had failed to impress.

Angered by this comment, CM Vijayan criticized Pujari after releasing the progress report of the third year of his government.

“I read about a statement from a priest who expects the floods to come again. Since, according to him, this government retained its position due to the floods (2018). This statement has proved that there are ignorant people even among the priests,” Vijayan said.

His outburst came an hour after top CPI(M) leaders met for the first time to take stock of the election debacle.

CM Vijayan's working style has already come under question after top leaders of CPI and RJD expressed their displeasure.
