Chennai, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday said Google will partner with Foxconn to produce its Pixel smartphones in Tamil Nadu for the first time.

He said the decision to start its production unit was the result of talks initiated by the state government with Google management and informed that Google officials would soon come to Chennai to meet them in this regard.

"Chennai has a bright opportunity to set up a manufacturing factory for Google Pixel. A situation has also been created in which qualified youth will get employment in information technology," the Chief Minister said in a release issued here.

Stalin has set an ambitious target of achieving one trillion USD by 2030, accordingly, investors' meetings were held in Tamil Nadu, Malaysia, Singapore Japan, Arab countries and France, leading to investment of Rs 9.6 lakh crore. The release said that this will ensure jobs for 30 lakh youth.

Following the Chief Minister's directive, state Industries Minister T R Raja visited the United States and held discussions with Google and Foxconn officials on starting a venture in the state. As a result of the talks, Google officials have offered to set up a Google Pixel cell phone manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu with Foxconn, the release said.
