Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh): Himachal Pradesh BJP leader Ashish Sharma on Monday accused Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu of promoting nepotism, days after the Congress leader's wife filed her nomination for the Dehra assembly bypoll.

By-elections are to be held in three assembly constituencies Hamirpur, Nalagarh and Dehra on July 10. These seats had become vacant after the resignation of independent MLAs who voted for BJP in the Rajya Sabha elections held in February. Later he joined BJP.

Sharma, BJP candidate from Hamirpur Assembly constituency, said Sukhu used to criticize leaders for fielding their relatives in elections but now he too is doing the same.

On one hand, the Chief Minister fielded his wife from Dehra, while on the other, he gave ticket to a former leader's son from Hamirpur, thereby giving rise to nepotism, Sharma said at an election rally in Hamirpur.

Chief Minister Sukhu's wife Kamlesh Thakur had filed her nomination on June 21.

Attacking his Congress rival Dr Pushpinder Verma over his statement that he had entered the electoral fray to serve the people, Sharma said there could be no greater service than treating the sick and injured.

Sharma said, he could have served the people by becoming a doctor, but due to greed for power, he left his profession and is now contesting elections.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA-cum-in-charge for Hamirpur assembly elections Randhir Sharma termed the state Congress government in Himachal Pradesh as "one of the most useless and deceitful governments in the history".

Talking to journalists here, he said that the Congress government is continuously misleading the people. Criminals and anti-social elements are roaming freely in the state and they have no fear of police or law.
