Jalna: Seven people were killed and three others seriously injured when two cars collided on the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, also known as Samriddhi Expressway, in Maharashtra's Jalna district. Police gave this information on Saturday.

He said that the incident took place near Kadavanchi village at around 11 pm on Friday night.

Police said the victims were residents of Malad (East) and Buldhana districts of Mumbai.

"A multi-utility vehicle (MUV) traveling from Nagpur to Mumbai and a car traveling in the opposite direction collided head-on, resulting in six deaths on the spot. Another person later died in hospital. broke." A police officer said.

The collision was so severe that the MUV broke the crash barrier and fell on the left side of the road. He said that local villagers and police reached the spot to rescue people trapped in the damaged remains of vehicles.

Dr. Umesh Jadhav, medical officer of the government district hospital in Jalna, said that six bodies were brought to the hospital for post-mortem. Three injured people are being treated here, while one seriously injured person was shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, who later died.

Three of the dead are from Mumbai, while several others are from Buldhana district. One person transferred to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has not been identified yet, he said.

He said that all three injured persons are from Mumbai.

Samriddhi Highway is a 701 km long six-lane expressway connecting Mumbai and Nagpur. The first phase of the highway connecting Nagpur to Shirdi was inaugurated in December 2022.
