Kolkata, Rwanda wants investment from India in agriculture, tourism, financial services and mining, the East African country's High Commissioner Jacqueline Mukangira said on Friday.

Speaking at the ICC session here, he said Rwanda offers a safe and favorable investment environment with many Indian companies setting up facilities in the country.

Mukangira said Rwanda offers a strong foundation for political, economic and social transformation for investment.

“Rwanda is now the safest place (to invest) and has one of the fastest growing economies in Africa,” he said.

Rwanda is also a preferred destination for MICE in Africa, he said.

“The government provides very good incentives for investment in Rwanda and capital gains exemptions are granted on the transfer of shares,” Mukangira said.

Rwanda's Honorary Consul in Kolkata Rudra Chatterjee said investment in the East African country is very profitable.

“A significant portion of Luxmi Tea’s revenues and profits come from its tea plantations in Rwanda,” he said.

Chatterjee, the company's managing director, said Lakshmi Tea bought three tea estates in Rwanda and started operations there seven years ago. DC NN
