Kolkata: Trends in Election Commission data are indicating a significant lead for the Trinamool Congress in the jute belt of West Bengal.

Candidates from the state's ruling party are likely to win in six constituencies, areas related to the jute industry, and three of them currently held by the BJP, indicating a possible shift in voter sentiment in favor of the TMC.

Those three seats are Cooch Behar, Barrackpur and Howrah.

In Cooch Behar, TMC candidate Jagdish Basunia is leading by a margin of 2,633 votes over his nearest rival, BJP candidate and Union minister Nisith Pramanik.

In Hooghly, TMC's Rachna Banerjee is getting a significant lead, leading by 33,047 votes over sitting BJP MP Locket Chatterjee.

In Barrackpore, TMC candidate Partha Bhowmik is leading over BJP MP Arjun Singh by 53,424 votes.

TMC also performed well in two other seats in the jute belt, which were not represented by the BJP.

In Murshidabad, TMC's Abu Taher Khan is leading by 64,653 votes, leaving behind CPI(M) candidate Mohammed Saleem. BJP candidate is in third place on this seat.

As of 3.15 pm, Howrah has given a huge lead to TMC's Parsun Banerjee, who is ahead of BJP's Rathin Chakraborty by 1,02,600 votes.

Ranaghat seat is probably the only seat in the region where BJP is leading.

There BJP's Jagannath Sarkar is ahead of TMC's Mukutmani Adhikari by about 78,551 votes.
