On the increase in the price of milk, the Chief Minister said that the prices of milk have not been increased.

“Last year milk production was 90 lakh liters whereas now it is more than 99 lakh liters per day. We have to buy and sell milk from farmers. 50 ml is mixed in each milk packet and the prices have also been increased in the same proportion. We are marketing the excess milk sold by the farmers and the rate is fixed accordingly,” he stressed.

Asked if hoteliers were considering increasing prices of coffee and tea, Siddaramaiah said how can they increase prices when milk prices are the same.

“Excess supply of milk has to be purchased from farmers and cannot be disposed of casually. “Buyers are getting more milk by paying extra,” he said.

On Tuesday, the Karnataka government increased milk prices by Rs 2, while adding an additional 50 ml to milk packets.

The revised rates have come into effect from Wednesday.
