New Delhi, India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said on Wednesday that the intensity of rain in Delhi is likely to increase in the coming days.

While the national capital received light rain on Wednesday, a day earlier, sudden rain coupled with strong winds washed away several parts of the city, causing heavy waterlogging and traffic jams.

Safdarjung Observatory, the primary weather station in the city, recorded 10.1 mm rainfall between 2.30 am and 5.30 pm, while weather stations at Palam, Lodhi Road and Ridge recorded 25.4 mm, 5 mm and 3.9 mm rainfall respectively.

According to data provided by the Delhi Municipal Corporation, it received six complaints of waterlogging till 6 pm from areas including Chittaranjan Park in south Delhi, Uttam Nagar in west Delhi and Karol Bagh in central Delhi.

IMD officials said the intensity of rain is likely to increase in the coming days.

The department had predicted light rain and drizzle in ITO, Akshardham, Lodhi Road and NCR till evening.

The maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was 36.4 degrees Celsius, which is one degree above the normal for this season. Humidity levels during the day ranged between 86 percent and 98 percent.
