New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Sunday directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to keep orders on transfer of 5,000 teachers, who have been posted in the same school for over 10 years, as an interim measure.

The decision came after a delegation of Delhi BJP leaders and teachers' representatives met Saxena at his office.

The BJP blamed the AAP government for the "arbitrary" decision to transfer the teachers, while AAP leader and Delhi Education Minister Atishi welcomed the LG's direction, terming it a victory for the people. of Delhi and alleged a BJP conspiracy behind the mass transfer order.

"Delhi people's struggle succeeded, BJP's conspiracy to destroy Delhi public schools failed," Atishi said in a post on X.

"He has suggested that the orders be kept in abeyance in the meantime. LG had received several representations from different government school teachers' associations and met their delegation at Raj Niwas today," he said.

The post also said that the teachers were accompanied by MPs Manoj Tiwari, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Yogender Chandolia, Bansuri Swaraj and former Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, all from the BJP.

A circular titled "Online Applications for Transfer of Teaching Staff from the Directorate of Education" directed all teachers who have worked for more than 10 years in a school to compulsorily apply for a transfer.

Otherwise, the Department of Education will transfer them to any school, according to the circular issued by the Department of Education on June 11.

A few days ago, Atishi had directed the chief secretary to immediately stop the mandatory transfer of 5,000 teachers who have been teaching in the same school for over 10 years, following allegations of corruption in the transfer process.

Reacting to LG's instructions, Atishi in the same post on the morning. Then I had promised our teachers, the children and their parents that we will not allow this conspiracy to harm the educational revolution to succeed.

"Today the people of Delhi have won, LG Saheb has had to withdraw the order from him. This is also a message for the BJP to stop conspiring against Delhi public schools," he said in the same post in Hindi.

The minister had ordered on July 1 that no teacher be transferred solely for having spent more than 10 years in a particular school.

When asked about Atishi's claims, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva replied: "The Delhi government gave the transfer order without much thought and started making excuses in the face of opposition from teachers."

"The Delhi government has issued transfer orders for 5,000 teachers. The transfers in such a large number were a cause of concern regarding which teachers went to their respective MPs. We discussed this with the L-G and he assured us that a policy will be formed in this regard " says BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat.

Ajay Veer Yadav, general secretary of the Public School Teachers' Association of India, said the LG's decision has brought great relief to the thousands of teachers who would have been relieved of their current position on Monday.

"Today we met the LG of Delhi who has given us great relief by suspending this order. The LG said that a committee will be formed and the transfer policy will be reviewed," Yadav said after meeting the LG.

Lovely said they sought the intervention of the LG as 5,000 teachers were transferred without any comprehensive transfer policy.
