New Delhi: A 13-year-old boy has been arrested at the Delhi airport for allegedly sending an email falsely claiming that a bomb was planted on a Toronto-bound Air Canada flight. The police gave this information on Tuesday.

He said the boy had sent the threat "just for fun" to see if it could be traced.

After being caught, the boy was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Ranganani said, "On June 4, at 11.25 pm, a PCR call was received at the IGI Airport police station regarding a bomb threat e-mail for flight number AC043, scheduled from Delhi to Toronto. .,

He said that based on the information received, Delhi airport was put on high alert and a complete emergency was declared in the complex.

"Guidelines and protocols as per SOP were followed properly to ensure safety of passengers. After a thorough search of the flight, the threatening e-mail turned out to be a hoax," the DCP said.

Ranganani said, an FIR was registered in the matter on the complaint received from Air Canada airline.

He said, “During investigation it was found that the said email ID was created a few hours before the fake threat was sent and it was deleted after the email was sent.,

After investigation, the police team reached Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.

“The sender of the email turned out to be a 13-year-old boy,” the DCP said.

During interrogation, the boy told police that he got the idea of ​​sending a bomb threat email after seeing news of a similar incident at the Mumbai airport. Ranganani said, he wanted to see whether the police would be able to trace him if he sent such an email.

He said the boy created an email ID on his mobile phone and used the Wi-Fi connection of his mother's mobile phone to send the email.He also revealed that he was very excited when he saw the news about the bomb rumor at Delhi airport the next day, but due to fear he did not share any information with his parents.

The boy has been caught and two mobile phones used for sending emails have been seized from him, the officer said.
