New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday urged people to refrain from using derogatory language and bad behavior towards former Union Minister Smriti Irani or any other leader.

His comments come at a time when some people are taking a dig at Irani for vacating her official bungalow after her defeat in the Lok Sabha elections to Congress's Kishori Lal Sharma in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.

Gandhi said on Twitter, "In life there are victories and defeats. I urge everyone to avoid using derogatory language and behaving badly towards Smt. Smriti Irani or any other leader."

"Insulting and humiliating people is a sign of weakness, not strength," the former Congress president said.

Weeks after losing the Amethi parliamentary seat to Sharma, a close aide of the Gandhi family, by a margin of over 1.6 lakh votes, Irani vacated her official bungalow at 28 Tughlaq Crescent in Lutyens' Delhi.

The former Women and Child Development Minister was branded a mass murderer after defeating Rahul Gandhi from the seat in 2019.

As soon as Irani vacated her official bungalow, some people took a dig at her and mocked her for her defeat in the elections.
