Hisar: A local leader of the opposition Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) was shot dead by assailants outside his two-wheeler dealership here on Wednesday. Police gave this information.

He said Ravindra Saini, around 50, was shot by three people who were coming on foot as he was coming out of the showroom in the afternoon.

CCTV footage shows another man waiting on a motorcycle near the showroom. After the attack, all three boarded a two-wheeler and fled.

Police said Saini was taken to hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

According to police department sources, Saini was provided a gunman for security.

Reacting to the incident, senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, "It is a matter of great concern and anger that BJP has handed over the people of Haryana to criminals."

The former chief minister posted in Hindi on 'X', "Criminals are fearlessly committing murders, extortion and robberies."

Hooda said, "Swift and strict action should be taken against the killers of Ravindra Saini ji."

Opposition parties in Haryana have recently attacked the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government over the law and order situation in the state.

Senior JJP leader and former deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala had recently demanded that the state should have "a full-time home minister".

Last week, shops and petrol pumps remained closed in Hisar as traders protested against the failure of the police to arrest miscreants who had opened fire outside a car dealership last month and demanded Rs 5 crore.

Traders alleged that after the firing incident, owners of an automobile showroom and a car accessories shop received extortion calls and were asked to pay up to Rs 2 crore each.
