New Delhi [India], After Delhi was hit by unprecedented rains last week leading to loss of life and severe waterlogging in the region, Delhi Government Ministers Saurabh Bhardwaj and Atishi held an Apex Committee meeting in Delhi Secretariat during flood control in the national capital on Friday and said that the Delhi government is ready to deal with the rising water level of the Yamuna.

Addressing the media at a press conference, Delhi Water Minister Atishi said, "To review the preparedness of emergency services and flood control department, we had a meeting with the flood department, Public Works Department (PWD), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Cantonment Board, NDMC, Delhi Traffic Police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and each of the units gave Your opinion".

On the Delhi government's preparedness for the flood, Atishi stated, "We have reviewed the preparations of all concerned departments, be it DDA or MCD, with respect to flood relief, flood evacuation and flood control. We hope that the flood situation does not happen in Delhi. But, If the water level in Yamuna rises, the Delhi government is prepared to deal with it."

On the water level of Haryana's Hathinikund Dam, he further stated, "We are constantly monitoring the weather forecasts of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and for the last two days, Himachal Pradesh has been receiving rain constantly. When it rains in Himachal Pradesh, the The water level in Hathinikund Barrage (Haryana) is also rising leading to an increase in the water level of Yamuna in Delhi But at this time, the discharge from this dam is currently limited. Hathinikund Barrage is around 350 cusecs. The flood situation arises when the level of 100,000 cusecs is crossed."

Further, he claimed that the Delhi government has constituted a 24/7 control room for flood operations to monitor the water level in Hathinikund Barrage and IMD weather predictions.

"If there are chances of floods in Delhi, the government is preparing to address the situation. We have constituted a 24/7 flood control room under the leadership of DM East Delhi in his office. Officials of the concerned departments are deployed round the clock *7 in the control room and are constantly in touch with the officials of the Haryana Irrigation Department. They are also monitoring the water level in Hathinikund dam and. the IMD's weather forecasts," Atishi said.

Atishi also mentioned that the departments concerned had conveyed the deployment of their flood-related teams at different locations to the Apex Committee in a meeting. She said, "If the water level in Hathinikund Barrage exceeds the level of 100,000 cusecs, then the relief and rescue machinery of the flood department will be operational. We also had a meeting with the NDRF, which plays an important role in relief. and rescue operations. The concerned departments also conveyed to the Apex Committee the deployment of their flood-related teams at different locations.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Delhi Minister Atishi inspected the Centralized Monsoon Control Room of the Public Works Department (PWD) to assess the waterlogging situation in the city.

"In the midst of rain in Delhi, today I inspected the Monsoon Centralized Control Room located at the PWD headquarters," she Atishi posted on X.

Atishi further said that the control room has maintained strict vigil at all serious waterlogging locations across the city through CCTV.

"The ground staff are also constantly inspecting the places with possible waterlogging. Immediate measures are being taken to eliminate waterlogging from the places where the complaints are coming. Furthermore, the entire process is also being monitored from the control room while follow-up is being carried out. of the complaint," he added.
