The hospitality sector in India and across the world is witnessing rapid change due to changing consumer preferences, technological advancements and global economic shifts.

Today, the region has adapted to the growing demand for unique personalized experiences, the emergence of eco-friendly and wellness tourism, and the impact of global events on travel patterns. Due to these changes, India's hospitality sector is set to reach $475.37 billion by 2029 from an estimated $247.31 billion in 2024, according to Mordo Intelligence.

Another important trend driving the sector forward is the unique blend of academic and industry learning for hospitality aspirants to be industry ready right from graduation. In this regard, the Career Leap Programme, an initiative of the Indian School of Hospitality (ISH) and Marriott Hotels, provides valuable opportunities to working graduates to advance in the promising hospitality sector. This innovative program will provide a 50 percent scholarship to all three selected students, as well as an assured job offer and a career trajectory for the next three years.

''There are students who have pursued traditional academic routes such as humanities, applied sciences or commerce, but wish to enter the hospitality sector. The Career Leap Program serves individuals like him. It has been designed by me for people who have at least one year of work experience, providing them a quick pathway to transition into the dynamic hospitality industry,” said Co-Founder and Managing Director of India School of Hospitality Mr. Kunal Vasudev says.

''After completing the Career Leap program, graduates can expect to begin their journey at the Assistant Manager level at Marriott.Within 12-1 months, they can progress to managerial roles in sales and revenue management and take up positions as Junior Sous and Sous Chef at various Marriott properties,'' Mr. Vasudeva says.

Another distinguishing feature of the program is a fixed stipend, which will be provided to students at both ISH and Marriott.

“Students enrolled in the Career Leap program will undergo a six-month course at ISH and a six-month course at Marriott. The upcoming batch is scheduled to start in August. The participants will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 10,00 at ISH, and a stipend of Rs 25,000 during their six-month tenure at Marriott,' says Mr Vasudeva.According to ISH, the program combines academic and industry learning and prepares graduates for immediate integration into the hospitality sector. The curriculum is designed to provide students with an all-round education encompassing both academic and contextual frameworks through workshops, case studies and other interactive learning methods.

These educational initiatives play a vital role in equipping the workforce with the necessary skills to meet the emerging demands of the ever-evolving hospitality industry. As the field continues to expand, programs like this will bridge the gap between education and industry, and foster the next generation of hospitality professionals.
