Mumbai: Several distress calls were made to an animal rescue organization amid the southwest monsoon that hit the Mumbai metropolitan area on Sunday.

In Thane's Lokmanya Nagar, an unusual brown wood owl was found and rescued near Sanjay Gandhi National Park, which could be the first such rescue of the species from the region, RAW founder Pawan Sharma said.

"It may have been displaced due to rain. It is currently being treated. More than a dozen other animals, birds and reptiles were also rescued in coordination with the forest department. These included monkeys, bats, squirrels, flamingos, Parrots, kingfishers, cuckoos and turtles were some of the injuries,” he said.
