Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], Bharatiya Janata Party's Brijmohan Agarwal, an eight-time MLA from Raipur, resigned from his post on Monday after his victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Chhattisgarh capital.

Aggarwal tendered his resignation from the post of MLA in Chhattisgarh government at the residence of Assembly Speaker Raman Singh.

Aggarwal said it was an emotional moment for him to resign as MLA after serving in the Chhattisgarh Assembly for the last 35 years.

"It was a very emotional moment for me. I have been a member of the Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh assemblies for the last 35 years. And now when I am heading to Parliament after leaving my post as an MLA after so long, an emotional Moment. All the schemes of the Central Government and my experience will be useful for the further development of the region," Agarwal said after submitting his resignation.

Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh said, "Now that he has been elected to the Lok Sabha, he cannot remain a member of two assemblies. Following the due procedure, today he resigned from the membership of the Assembly."

In a post on X, Brijmohan said that he will continue to work for the people of Raipur and the state of Chhattisgarh even with "more energy".

“When responsibilities increase, many things have to be given up. After participating in the Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Assembly proceedings for more than 35 years and working for the development and prosperity of the state, this is a very emotional moment for me. " Aggarwal wrote in a post on X, "I will resign from the post of MLA today. I will work for Raipur Lok Sabha and Chhattisgarh with new energy. Just as Mohan was for my people, he will be their Mohan in future also.

In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, BJP's Brijmohan Aggarwal won from Raipur seat by a margin of 575265 seats.

He contested the election against Vikas Upadhyay of Congress Party.
