He said that there is a possibility of heavy rain and strong winds in Tripura from the night of May 26 to May 29. Addressing the media at the Secretariat's conference hall on Sunday, Brijesh Pandey said, "Severe cyclonic storm "Remal" over Bay of Bengal is moving northwards, hitting Khepupara around 11:00 pm and There is a possibility of landslides near Sagar Island, which may cause heavy rainfall and strong winds in Tripura from the night of May 26 to May 29, 2024. In response, the Revenue Department issues a preliminary advisory on May 29.24, and emergency operation centers are active 24/7." He said several important decisions were taken in the State Executive Committee meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary on May 26. He further said, "Schools and educational institutions will be closed on May 2 and 28. Will remain closed. The transport department will coordinate with the transport authority regarding any cancellation." Teams of NDRF and SDRF are being deployed for emergency response.The food department will ensure necessary supplies. Fishermen are advised not to enter water bodies for fishing from May 26 to 28. Flights from Kolkata to Agartala are canceled till 9:00 pm. With an update on May 27, he further said that the state government assures citizens that measures have been taken to effectively manage the impact of the cyclone. On Sunday, Brijesh Pandey said that the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for four districts of Tripura.Orange alert has been issued for two more districts in view of cyclonic storm "Remal" on May 27. Speaking to mediapersons at the Civil Secretariat, Pandey said, "Cyclone storm 'Remal' is now centered over the Bay of Bengal. It has turned into a severe cyclonic storm. It is expected to continue moving almost northwards and reach 110-120 kmph gusts of 135 kmph. It is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm with maximum wind speed reaching up to 100 kmph. The districts for which red alert has been issued include West Tripura, Khowai, South Tripura and Dhalai districts.North Tripura and Unakoti districts are under orange alert.
