Debbarma, accompanied by his sister and Tripura East MP Kriti Devi Debbarman, met Development North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and State Minister of the Union, Jayant Chaudhary.

TMP sources said on Thursday that Debbarma discussed various issues of tribal development in Tripura and demanded adequate support from the Union Ministers.

After his meeting with TMP leader Scindia, he, in a post on the areas of the sixth schedule. A social impact assessment and audit of the projects must be carried out. And he informed him about the projects that can be implemented at TTAADC."

After meeting Oram, Debbarma posted: "Tripura used to be an indigenous/tribal state and over the years, due to various factors, we indigenous people have become a minority in our own land. I requested him to financially empower the TTAADC."

Since April 2021, the TMP has governed the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which has jurisdiction over two-thirds of the state's 10,491 square kilometer area and is home to more than 12,16,000 people, of which around 84 percent are tribal. In political importance, it is the second most important constitutional body in the state after the Assembly.

The TMP, which won 13 seats - all reserved for tribals - in the 2023 Assembly elections, on March 2 signed the tripartite agreement with the Center and the Tripura government and on March 7, two MLAs of the party joined forces. They became BJP ministers. led government.

The tripartite agreement provided for the establishment of a joint working group/committee to resolve and implement the mutually agreed issues within a time-bound period to ensure an "honourable" solution to the demands of the tribals.

However, TMP president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl and other leaders last week expressed concern over the implementation of the tripartite agreement and announced that the party would contest the three-tier panchayat elections only in July or August.

"We cannot lose our identity as a regional party. We will highlight the basic issues and problems of the tribals. We will fight for constitutional solutions to the demands and problems of the tribals," Hrangkhawl had told the media.

The TMP seeks a “Greater Tipraland” or a separate state for the tribes under Articles 2 and 3 of the Constitution. However, the BJP strongly opposed the demand.
